SENIOR OVERHEAD LINE LEAD DESIGN ENGINEER
The Company
Our client is currently working with one of the largest electricity providers in the UK. Recently awarded a £550 million project to renew and refurbish all of the overhead transmission lines, under ground cables, powers stations, pylons etc. across the UK.Additionally working on three major nuclear projects worth £700 million.
Our client has been formed to bring together a collaborative 4 way partnership to deliver a programme to support the safe efficient replacement and renewal of overhead transmission lines under ground cables refitting powers stations, pylons etc.
Location Warwickshire
Reports to:Chief Line Design Engineer
Key purpose:Completing allocated projects in accordance with programme, cost and quality.
Overhead Line Design Engineers
Very industry specific as they decide the detailed routing of the line and the sitting of the towers which the other designers then base their own work upon.
Keys words: - Electric power transmission, Overhead power line, Overhead lines, overhead wires, 400kv, High Voltage, HV, EHV, transmission towers, lattice transmission.
Specific Responsibilities:
• Act as Project Engineer as directed by the Chief Engineer or Chief Structural Design Engineer.
• Analyse contract documents to ensure correct interpretation of customers/consultants intentions.
• Design systems, defined as the integrated structure / line / civil works, so that they may be supplied and constructed in accordance with contract documents and / or current practices. Assist in analysis and resolution of design problems.
• Provide designs, volumes and quantities as required for tender submission such that upon contract award, the budget, programme and specification can be achieved.
• Attend tests, as required, to verify the suitability of design. Provide necessary calculations and / or reports to justify test loads and results. Assist in analysis of test failures.
• Ensure that any drawings produced by the Drawing Office represent the design as intended.
• Correspond as directed with the Business Units, customer, consultant, vendor (sub-contractor) to ensure the achievement of satisfactory progress and quality. Visit sites and offices (home and overseas) to discuss and solve problem issues, as appropriate.
• Liaise with the appropriate personnel to achieve optimum construction, erection and installation procedures.
• Ensure that Procedures and Manuals provided for compliance with the appropriate Quality Assurance Standards are applied and participate in their maintenance.
• Undergo training as required to enable effective achievement of objectives. Assist in training other designers when requested.
• Liaise with Development Section regarding development of and updates to computer programmes and assist in analysis of new design concepts.
• Undertake other such duties as may be required by the Chief Structural Design Engineer
